Greetings from the White House

A note of Best Wishes from the White House is the perfect accent to your wedding day scrapbook.  There are a few guidelines you'll need to follow to receive your note from Mr. and Mrs. Obama.

Include the following:
Name and Home Address of the Honoree(s)
Form of address (Mr., Ms., Mrs., Dr., Miss, etc.)
Exact date of occasion (month, day, year) your (the requestor's) name and daytime phone number)
Wedding (Include couple's married names and current or new address)

The White House will send a card of congratulations on your wedding by contacting the Greetings Office:

Fax:  202.395.1232

Mail:  The White House
          Attn: Greetings Office
          Washington DC 20502-0039

You must follow these guidelines:
U.S. Citizens Only:  The White House will send greetings to United States citizens only, for special occasions.

Advance Notice Required:  Your request must be received six weeks in advance of event date.  Greetings are generally not sent after the event date, except for wedding congratulations.

When to expect your greeting:  In most cases, greetings will be mailed from the White House approximately ten days prior to the event.

Crafty Christmas

We saw this great idea over on WeddingBee (love those ladies) and just had to share it.

Mrs. Green Tea created Christmas ornaments using a clear glass ornament (from any craft store) and rolled strips of her leftover wedding invitations to put inside.

Such a fun way to remember your wedding every time you decorate the tree - while using those inevitable extra invitations!

Questions: Answered.

Peggy Post answers etiquette questions for InStyleWeddings.com.  We stumbled across this question and answer, which our brides often ask.

"Q.  It's three weeks before the wedding and several guests still haven't RSVP'd! What should we do?

 A. The first obligation anyone has upon receiving a wedding invitation is to respond immediately, regardless of whether he or she can attend. At this late date you really have no choice but to telephone the would-be guests and ask whether they plan on coming.(Your fiancĂ©, mother, future mother-in-law and some of your attendants can help you make the calls.) To ease the awkward nature of these conversations, be friendly and say something like, "Aunt Jenny, it's Sara. I hope you received our wedding invitation. We need to give our final numbers to the caterer this week, and I haven't received your response card, so I'm calling to ask if you and Uncle John plan on coming. We hope you're able to join us!" Just state your case matter-of-factly without laying blame. (Occasionally invitations and response cards are lost in the mail.) Whatever led to the lapse, your gracious manner will set a positive tone for the wedding."

Thanks Peggy!

Stamp out your Stamps

With all of the changes at the United States Postal Services we've run into issues with stamps for wedding invitations.  The problem?  They're just not pretty enough.  The answer?

Custom Stamps
Zazzle.com and PhotoStamps.com will both create custom stamps with the image and denomination of your choice.  The custom stamps run about $5 - $10.00 in addition to the postage costs.

Be sure to have your invitations weighed and measured by the post office before ordering.  There are so many rules about the size, weight, and flexibility of the final envelope you have to go to the actual post office and have them test it for you.

What to put on there?
An engagement picture, a favorite snapshot, or even a picture of your dog!

You can use them for your Save the Dates, Invitations, RSVP cards, or Thank You Notes.
